How to sell on Instagram

meet the new checkout feature

28 Mar 2019

With more than 500 million active users and 72% of users purchasing products through the Instagram app, shopping on Instagram offers more opportunities for businesses to showcase their products.

Instagram is all about telling stories and showcasing lifestyles. Users scroll through feeds, explore and find new things from the brands they follow.

If you are a product-based business who has an Instagram account and you’re not using shoppable posts, you’re missing out on a valuable tool that helps you close leads.

Instagram shopping gives your users easy access, clear pricing and with the new checkout feature soon to be realised, they don't even have to leave Instagram to purchase the product.

With this feature Instagram prevents users jumping from Instagram to a retailer’s website where they might need to log in, fill in their shipping info and payment details etc. This often leads to higher cart abandonment rates (26% of users will abandon their cart if the checkout process is too complicated).

With the new to be introduced Instagram feature, Instagram is trying to prevent this by staying in the Instagram app and saving their shipping and credit card details in the app. All shoppers have to do is tap on a tagged post on their feed and press the button to place an order.

Note: The new checkout feature is currently in closed beta for several major businesses like Nike, Burberry and Zara, and only available to users in the United States at this stage. Instagram plans to rolls this out soon. Want to hear more about when the checkout feature will be available?  Sign up here.
